The encounter with Simon Wiesenthal in November 1995 was very moving. His declared life goal was the “search for justice for the death of millions of innocent people”. To this end, he wanted to hold accountable those people who had contributed to the “final solution of the Jewish question”, since from an early time he rejected the theory of collective guilt. As Holocaust witness and survivor he warned against forgetting the Shoah which, in his opinion, had not begun with mass murder and gas chambers, but with the dismantlement of democracy and human rights.
